A Multicultural Journey to Wellness: Umi was born from founder Dyala Madani’s rich multicultural upbringing and passion for healthy living. Dyala is British-born to Lebanese parents, married to an Iranian husband, and has lived across the UK, Middle East and US. Her travels and experiences exposed her to vibrant culinary traditions and ancient remedies​. This global heritage instilled in her a deep love for good food and good health​.

As a mom raising her family in the U.S., she’s spent years crafting wholesome recipes which she shares on her personal blog, and embracing natural ingredients to keep food both fun and nourishing for her children and loved ones​. Through these experiences, Dyala learned a key lesson: always start with the best ingredients, produced organically, ethically, and sustainably​.

Inspiration Behind Umi: Among the many spices and remedies Dyala encountered, saffron stood out as something truly special. Saffron had long been a staple in her kitchen for its subtle earthy flavor and in her wellness cabinet for its healing properties. However, she realized that using saffron in its traditional thread form could be time-consuming and intimidating for everyday cooks. Determined to make this “sunshine herb” (as saffron is nicknamed for its mood-brightening glow) accessible to all, Dyala set out to create a solution. The result was Umi – a labor of love that harnesses the power of nature and time-honored tradition of herbalism to bring you saffron, the world’s most precious spice, in a quick and bioavailable form​.
